So, the Boston Celtics were eliminated on Wednesday, May 8th in Milwaukee. Although the Celtics swept the Pacers in the first round of the playoffs; they didn’t play well in round 2 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Boston Celtics Playoff Elimination

In the first place, this year’s Celtics team has been up and down all year. So, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that they crumbled in the second round. In my opinion, this year’s team didn’t gel well.

After making it to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cavaliers the year before; many thought this year’s team would be the front runner in the NBA.

Last year, two of their top players were out for the playoffs. However, even without Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, the team went a lot further than many expected. So, it was a natural conclusion that this year’s team would be better with the return of both Hayward and Irving’s return.

But, what happened? From blowing out the Bucks in Game 1, the Celtics dropped their next four games.

Beside a lot of young players who are still developing as well as issues among the players; it is clear this team will have a different look come next season.

Boston Celtics Future

Since this was an early exit for this team; Danny Ainge will have his work cut out for him in the off-season. Indeed, there has been a lot of speculation on Kyrie Irving throughout the season. To read more, be sure to check out my Kyrie Irving Basketball Drama post.

Was too much emphasis placed on Irving’s future? Not only should there be blame on Irving; but also on Brad Stevens. And, Steven was first to admit after the conclusion of their round 2 elimination; he takes full responsibility for not finding the best way to fit this team together.

Will Irving stay or go? So, now many are predicting Irving will opt out of his contact and sign elsewhere.  In my opinion, I think Irving is a great player but he lacks leadership skills and more importantly, the professionalism when engaging with others.

Will the Celtics draft picks this Summer be enough? Since there has been rumors on pursuing Anthony Davis in the off season; will Davis sign with the Celtics?

In summary, what changes do you think Ainge will make in the off season?

As always, I welcome your comments.
