For the 9th consecutive year, the Patriots clinch first round bye with their win over the New York Jets in their final game of the regular season.
Patriots Clinch First Round Bye
With the Patriots win over the New York Jets of 38 – 3; they will sit out Week 1 of the Playoffs. Although this season has had ups and downs, the Patriots finished their season undefeated at home.
When the pre-season started, I predicted the Patriots would go 12 – 4. However, many experts predicted their record to be 11 – 5. And, it ended up being an 11 – 5. season. To read more, check out my New England Patriots Season Preview post.
Now that the Patriots have a first round bye; they will have at least one of the playoff games at home.
Patriots Clinch First Round Bye – Playoff Picture
Since 2001, the Patriots have had 13 playoff byes. Surprisingly, the Patriots were the only team in the NFL to go undefeated at home this season.
Now, the Patriots will host the winner of the Wild Card game on the weekend of January 12th – 13th. Because Devin McCourty suffered a head injury; will he be able to play in the Wild Card game?
Also, both Dont’a Hightower and Patrick Chung had injuries. Although both players returned for a few minutes in the final game; will their injuries prevent them from having a good game in the Wild Card match-up?
Because the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers won their games, the Patriots are the Number two seed team. Now, that the Patriots are the Number 2 seed, they have some time to prepare for their next game.
So, now that the Patriots have clinched the division; I’m looking forward to my cocktail of choice at a future outing with my good friend, Joe Balchunas.
As always, I welcome your comments.
